Yingge

Last Sunday, after a very late night of reggae music and friends, Wes and I traveled to Yingge with our friends Linya and GeGe. Linya introduced us to our new friends Minglung, Neil, and Martin who also came to explore the Ceramics Town.

We went to the Taipei County Yingge Ceramics Museum first, and I was impressed by their special exhibitions. It made me remember just how much I enjoyed ceramics when I was younger, and how much great art is out there for us to see.

After the museum, we walked into the town of Yingge and grabbed some food and walked around the shops. I thought that there would be more hand-crafted work for sale, but I still enjoyed walking around and some of the stores had some nice art work in them.

I was even able to pay to throw a pot, and it was nice to get my hands dirty. Although . . . they center the clay for you, don't let you control the speed of the wheel, and take the liberty of removing your hands from your pot and just doing most of it themselves. That was a little disappointing, but again, it was just fun to have my hands on clay.

Unfortunately the battery in my camera died after the first photo I took, so I don't have any to share. Luckily, Linya took some photos from our trip and here they are:

Here is the pot that I made.
Wes did the decorating.

Voila!

It was a fun day, but tiring.

Wes and I are hoping to go camping this weekend. Friends of ours mentioned going camping last weekend, and two days later, Wes is at work and someone is cleaning out a cabinet at the school . . . They pull a tent out of the cabinet and say, "Wow, here's a tent. You want it?" Wes, being the smart man that he is, said yes. So now we have a tent!

Hopefully we'll have photos from our camping trip up next!
