Mr. Harris and I took some time off of work and spent a week traveling around Formosa. We headed down to the south of Taiwan to Kenting and the surrounding area to camp, swim, and hike. The weather was perfect, and we discovered that Wes is an advanced scooter driver.
After a few days at the beach, we headed up the east coast to Hualien. We spent the night in Hualien and visited the aborigine nightmarket and walked around Hualien city proper. The next morning we took a bus into Taroko Gorge. We spent one chilly night camping and two days hiking and seeing some of the most beautiful things we have ever seen in our lives. No photograph can do Taroko justice, it's a place that you really just have to go and witness.
Our last night was spent back in Hualien, and our final day we walked around the Tzu Chi temple, and ate some bomb-diggity vegetarian food in the hospital. No lie, it was the best Chinese food we have had in Taiwan.
Here are some things that we saw:
Wes used his gamer intuition to find the greatest arcade ever, which had all of the classic video games, as well as this sweet Japanese game.
Our campsite at Shadao Beach.
The beach and tide pools at Sail Rock.
Hiking around the lighthouse.
Sunset at Shadao Beach.
We spent a day hiking around the National Park. This is a plank root tree that was just amazing.

We found the best beach in southern Taiwan, Baisha Beach. We got to swim in November, it was fantastic.
This is a stinkbug that we found at our campsite in Taroko Gorge.
Our campsite in Taroko Gorge.
View from Tiansiang in Taroko Gorge.

This is the temple in Tiansiang.
Taroko Gorge is a marble gorge, it's absolutely astounding.

The Tunnel of Nine Turns.

Tzu Chi temple in Hualien.
Delicious.
