Cameron Highlands

We took a bus into the Cameron Highlands a few days ago . . . I honestly have no idea what day of the week it is . . . ah, vacation. Don't worry, we've done our share of hard work too . . . hiking through the Malaysian jungle, not easy, but INCREDIBLE!

It's impossible to describe just how beautiful it is once you get out of the town and into the jungle. We did 3 serious hikes in the past 2 days, and we didn't see a single person on any of the trails we took, so awesome! It's a mixed bag I guess because it's weird to me that people wouldn't want to be more active and do these hikes, but it's peaceful to be out on the trail by yourself.

Yesterday we did two hikes, one of which took us the top of a mountain where we watched clouds roll up onto us from the valley and over and away, as swifts swooped all around, it was sort of magical for lack of a better word.

Today we hiked about 22 kilometers. We took an absolutely incredible trail through the jungle that had us climbing like monkeys up giant roots. They aren't big fans of switch-back trails, so you literally are climbing up the "trail." It was amazing and breathtaking. At one point we poked our way off of the trail to the edge of this mossy cliff where we sat to take in the incredible landscape of the jungle covered mountains around us. There was this aromatic smell that hung around us, that was sweet like incense. I don't know how to describe it in words, but it was awesome. I wish I could take all of you to that place so that you could experience it.

The only downside was hiking down the road back to Tana Rhata . . . lots of exhaust and confused stares as to why you would walk when you could drive . . . It was a long walk, but well worth it.

Tomorrow we are off to Pulau Perhentian. It's an island off the Northeastern coast of Malaysia. There are no cars, no computers, and the only electricity comes from generators . . . so EXCITED! We'll update the blog when we decide to leave paradise.

Lots of Love!
